The sweet treats you provide at your wedding can be both beautiful, fun and delicious! Whether you decide to go traditional or wild, dirty frosting or donuts, we have what you need to make your sugary confections make a statement at your reception.
Black is the New White
Whether in the cake’s decorations or the table linens, black is a hot new trend that’s finding its way to the Outer Banks. It’s chic, sophisticated, and we all know black goes with everything. We have a variety of black linens from satin, spandex, crinkle, pin-tuck, sequins, crushed velvet, or a basic poly to make your reception confections take the cake! In this picture we provided the cupcake stand, round cake table, and black sequins table linen.
It all started a few years back nationwide with the cupcake trend, but on the Outer Banks, the sugary sky is the limit.
Donuts are haute (and hot!) around these parts with the rise of Duck Donuts. Couples reminisce about vacation mornings with a fresh made donut while watching the sun rise over the Atlantic. They want to share not only the beauty of these sweet treats, but the delicious, decadent, and unique flavor combos during their reception. In this picture we provided the tent, bamboo chairs, tables and linen rentals for this reception, but we do not rent a donut wall.
Lastly, one knows you can’t spend any time on the beach without ice cream (or it’s OBX cousins). OBX Sunset Slush provides smooth and refreshing Italian ice (which can also be made into an adult specialty cocktail when finished with a splash of Prosecco or Champagne).
Surfin’ Spoon has homemade frozen yogurt ice cream sandwiches in a variety of flavors like Lemon Lavberry, Strawberry Shred Cake, and Old School (chocolate cookie/vanilla). All choices could be beautifully displayed on our variety of sterling silver cake stands, cupcake stands, or featured atop our rustic wine barrels!
OBX Frozen Yogurt provides a ‘sundae bar’ where we would supply the tables and linens to display a variety of toppings for their creamy frozen yogurt.
Understand Textures & Designs
The details (or lack thereof) are a big bakery deal with unique textures being featured in the fondant or frosting. Other trends for the cake are crumb coating and “dirty icing,” where to some traditionalists, the cake might seem natural, unfinished, unpolished, and real, which inevitably (without getting too philosophical with the sweet stuff) reflects life in general.
These cakes featured on a cake table with a linen pulling from one of the focal cake colors will make for a show-stopping, eye-catching focal point to the reception. In these pictures we provided the wine barrels, cake stands, the cake tables, and linens.
Single or Two-Tier Cakes
The zenith of the chic minimalism trend is a single or two-tier cake. Accent with a few flowers and have it complimented on a really rich linen, or set atop our rustic wine barrels, and you’re set! The oldest trick in the book is having extra cake in the back kitchen so all of your guests can have their sweet tooth satisfied.
But remember, having a minimalistic cake doesn’t mean you can’t bring a flair for the OBX. A couple can keep with a traditional cake, but boy do we have some popping southern flavors. In-season berries, lemon lavender, hummingbird, or key lime will add the perfect Outer Banks touch to your cake. In these pictures we provided the wine barrels, cake stand, linens, flatware and china rentals.
